New Workers Comp Law in Effect in California

On January 1, 2013 a new law, SB 863, went into effect that changes workers’ compensation law in California. Recently the administrative director has adopted some emergency regulations to carry out the program. There are six sets of regulations which took effect January 1 and have the full force of the law. However, because these are “emergency regulations” they only remain in effect for 180 days. These may change with the political wind so stay tuned and watch closely for the changes and how they may affect workers’ compensation benefits in California.
